Birmingham Vote Rigging Causes Further Muslim Disillusionment - 5th April 2005

The findings of Election Commissioner Richard Mawrey QC that there was widespread fraud in last year's local elections in Birmingham only adds to the further disillusionment of the Muslim community with the party political electoral process. Richard Mawrey QC described the vote rigging as "electoral fraud that would disgrace a banana republic".

Commenting on the vote rigging and the forthcoming UK general election, Dr Imran Waheed, a Birmingham based doctor and the Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, "The Muslim community deserves better than these political parties, their policies and false promises that harm our community. The Muslim community can wield influence without losing their identity, utilise their voice to help the liberation of the Muslim world from colonial subservience, address local problems such as spiralling drug use and crime and challenge the fears about Islam and Muslims that are ever present in society, without relying on these corrupt politicians and parties whatsoever. Simply outlawing postal ballots will not end the corruption that these parties have institutionalised in our community over decades. "
