2009. The 2nd annual Young
Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards
are taking place on December 14
at Glasgow City Chambers from 17:00.
The Awards celebrate the outstanding
achievements of young people from
all minority.

The
2nd annual Young Scottish Minority
Ethnic Awards are taking place on
December 14 at Glasgow City Chambers
from 17:00. The Awards celebrate
the outstanding achievements of
young people from all minority Ethnic
backgrounds that have inspired others
and positively contributed to life
in Scotland.
The
Awards are supporting charities
Roshni and Save the Children
Ali Khan, Chair and Founder of Roshni
said: Roshni are delighted
to have been invited by Oceanic
Consulting to support the Young
Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards
2009. These awards have in the past,
and I am sure this year will be
no exception, proved to be the launch
pad of some of Scotlands
most dynamic and inspirational young
people. Roshni strive to raise awareness
on the issues of abuse and neglect
of children within black and minority
Ethnic communities in Scotland,
and hope that by honouring those
who are achieving great things can
bring these issues to the forefront.
The event will be hosted by Councillor
Ruth Black, who will be joined by
high profile social action activist
Hamira Khan who said: The
Young Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards
are the only awards of this kind,
where we celebrate the achievements
of our dedicated, talented and hard-working
young people. I am delighted to
be hosting this years event,
and look forward to meeting inspirational
individuals who will hopefully go
on to motivate others.
The
Awards recognise the achievements
of Scottish minority Ethnic youth
in the following categories: Community
Contribution; Best Arts Contribution;
Sports Achievements; Friend of the
Environment; Career Achievement;
Future Political Force; Science
& Technology/Engineering Initiative;
Apprentice of the Year; and The
Bashir Ahmad Spirit of Scotland,
renamed to honour the late MSP.
Around
200 people are expected to attend
the Awards in December guests
will comprise of individuals, community
leaders, public officials and businesses
with an interest in youth activity.
Nominations
for the event are open until the
end of November and all young Scots
from minority Ethnic backgrounds
aged between 14 and 26 years are
eligible.
