London
Conference to Launch Muslim Agenda for UK General Election
- 29th March 2005
Over a thousand
Muslims will attend a conference in London this Saturday
[April 2nd 2005] for the launch of an alternative agenda
for Muslims in Britain in the run up to the UK general
election, widely expected to take place in early May.
The conference has been organised by the global Islamic
political party, Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, as part of
its national "Stand for Islam Build our
Community" campaign.
Over a thousand
conference delegates from across the UK will discuss
how the Muslim community can wield influence without
losing their identity, utilise their voice to help the
liberation of the Muslim world from colonial subservience,
address local problems such as spiralling drug use and
crime and challenge the fears about Islam and Muslims
that are ever present in society.
Dr Imran Waheed,
a UK based doctor and the Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir
Britain, said, We deserve better than these political
parties, their policies and false promises that harm
our community. We will be launching a manifesto that
merges together the talent, expertise and enthusiasm
of our community and brings forward a vision of how
we can pursue self-reliance and achieve our real interests
outside the corrupt party political electoral process."
The conference
and manifesto launch will take place on Saturday April
2nd 2005 at 10.30 a.m. at The Royal National Hotel,
Bedford Way, London, WC1H 0DG (Nearest tube: Russell
Square).
